Cover Story
The Fermi Large Area Telescope (LAT), in orbit since 2008, discovers approximately 25 gamma-ray pulsars every year. Targeted radio searches of those pulsar-like LAT gamma-ray sources have led to the discovery of ~100 millisecond pulsars (MSPs), most of which subsequently show gamma-ray pulses. Along with the signing of a MOU between Fermi and FAST, FAST searches of LAT sources have proved highly successful during the past two years, evidenced by the discovery of several pulsars from the most promising pulsar-like unassociated gamma-ray sources under the FAST & Fermi-LAT Collaboration. This demonstrates the great potential of FAST in pulsar discovery, thus furthering the understanding of the galactic electron density model and the nearby neutron stars population. The cover image is an artistic perspective showing simultaneous space- and ground-based pulsar observations. Triggered by the joint effort of multi-band observations, FAST will make significant contributions to understanding the secrets of compact stars (See the article (No.129562) by Pei Wang et al.).
